Strategy secured 22,048 Bitcoin for $1.92 billion between March 24 and March 30, 2025, at an average price of $86,969 per BTC. Michael Saylor, the company’s executive chairman, announced the purchase on March 31 via X, revealing that Strategy now holds 528,185 BTC acquired for $35.63 billion at an average cost of $67,458 per Bitcoin. Despite Bitcoin’s recent price dip to around $82,000, Strategy’s holdings remain valued at approximately $43.4 billion, representing unrealized gains exceeding $7.7 billion.
The acquisition was funded through proceeds from stock offerings, including Class A Common Stock (MSTR), Perpetual Strike Preferred Stock (STRK), and Strife Preferred Stock (STRF). Strategy raised $1.2 billion through MSTR sales and $18.52 million from STRK sales during the reporting period, alongside a $711.2 million public offering of STRF shares. These efforts align with the company’s expanded 21/21 Plan, which targets raising $21 billion via equity and another $21 billion through fixed-income instruments to fuel future Bitcoin purchases.
Strategy’s aggressive accumulation strategy has positioned it as the largest corporate Bitcoin holder, controlling roughly 2.55% of the cryptocurrency’s circulating supply. The company achieved an 11% year-to-date yield on its Bitcoin holdings, reflecting its confidence in the asset’s long-term potential despite market volatility. Earlier in 2025, the firm rebranded from MicroStrategy to emphasize its focus on Bitcoin treasury management and artificial intelligence.
Analysts note that Strategy’s persistent purchases, totaling over $1.9 billion in March alone, reinforce its role as a leveraged proxy for institutional Bitcoin exposure. However, concerns linger over potential tax liabilities tied to its $7.7 billion unrealized gains, which could face a 15% corporate tax rate. The company maintains plans to issue additional shares to sustain its acquisition pace, underscoring CEO Michael Saylor’s bullish outlook on Bitcoin’s future valuation, which he estimates could reach $3 million to $49 million per coin in extreme scenarios.
